About Michael Romanus

Michael E. Romanus joined South State Bank in Raleigh, NC, in 2017, as Senior Vice President of Private Banking after a long career in banking starting as Branch Manager at First National Bank of Pennsylvania in 1999. He left in 2002 for PNC where he served as Branch Manager for several locations before becoming Vice-President Sr. Business Banker in Pittsburgh before transferring to Durham, NC. In 2013, he became Market Loan Manager, Carolina Market, and then Business Banking Sales Manager in Raleigh. He has a Bachelor of Science in Business from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and graduate of Leadership Development XXII from Leadership Pittsburgh.

Romanus has been involved in community projects throughout his career. Since moving to North Carolina, he has been involved with Family Services of the Piedmont’s Big Hair Ball and Oyster Roast, Greensboro NC; River Run Film Festival, Winston-Salem, NC; Raleigh-Durham Woman’s Advantage Forum; and East Durham Community Garden. In his hometown, he was active in the Regional Business Alliance;

Family Services of Western PA; Brentwood Business Owners Association; Brentwood Fourth of July Parade Committee; National Federation for Teaching Entrepreneurship; several local Chambers of Commerce; as well as a member of Pleasant Hills Rotary.

He is the proud father of two children Michael and Stephana (Stephie) and is heavily involved in their lives, including coaching Michael’s hockey and Stephie’s horseback riding. Active in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Durham, Romanus is into collecting fine wine, attending live concerts, vinyl records and cooking.
