Meet Ruby, a 10-year-old Pomeranian and Chihuahua mix, and the cutest part of the staff at Roman Clinical Consulting, a Myrtle Beach-based business owned by Tony and Monica Roman that provides mental health treatment services such as diagnostic assessments, individual and family therapy and group therapy.
Ruby is a certified therapy dog and is trained to read a person’s mood so she can help them navigate their emotional state in a positive way. Her adorable looks, combined with her calm demeanor and exceptional perception skills give her the ability to instantly connect with new friends, making her a valuable member of the Roman Clinical Consulting team.
“Ruby does an excellent job of making our patients feel welcome; she provides emotional support by allowing people to love on her however they feel comfortable,” said Monica Roman, co-owner of Roman Clinical Consulting. “She’s particularly gifted at getting our younger patients acclimated to a new therapy environment, which can sometimes be stressful for children.”
Ruby is also very well-known at Brightwater Assisted Living, where she and Monica volunteer their time to brighten the days of the facility’s residents.
“Many of the residents have established relationships with Ruby and are thrilled to see her little feet scamper through the Brightwater front doors,” Roman said. “She reminds some of the residents of dogs that they’ve had in the past and can be an uplifting presence for folks, especially those that haven’t had regular visitors.”
Ruby is not only beloved by her patients, she is also beloved by the South State bankers whom she visits every week at the Grissom Parkway branch in Myrtle Beach. After the Romans complete their banking, Ruby waits patiently for a dog treat from the tellers.
“Once we pull up to the window, Ruby positions herself where the tellers can see her and stares at them, licking her lips in anticipation for her treat. She really enjoys visiting the ladies at the drive thru every week.
“When Tony was looking to secure a business loan, he met with several local banks and felt the most comfortable working with South State Bank. South State makes you feel welcome, they make you feel like they care about you and your business. We appreciate the fast and friendly service that they provide, and of course, Ruby appreciates the dog treats! We really value the relationship that we have with our local branch,” said Roman.
South State Bank is proud of the important work Roman Clinical Consulting is doing in the community. We’re also extremely grateful to have a friend like Ruby, who’s making a big difference in the world, one puppy kiss at a time.
On National Dog Day and every day, we salute you, Ruby!
