Our bankers never cease to amaze us with their passion and selflessness. Here is a story we are proud to share in honor of Grandparents Day.
The role of a grandparent is a special one, especially to Jane Hicks, a Teller in our Stanley, NC branch, who works to honor the memory of her granddaughter, Grace Endris Haynes, each day.
Grace was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, in 2014. She courageously endured 22 months of high-dose chemotherapy, radiation and multiple surgeries. While she faced many difficulties, she maintained her positive attitude and vibrant personality. Rather than dwelling on the challenges at hand, Grace selflessly focused on how she could help others – particularly those battling pediatric cancer.
Grace passed away in December 2015 at only 14 years old, but her brave spirit continues to live on. The Amazing Grace Foundation was created to honor her memory and carry on the work in which Grace so strongly believed. The foundation provides financial support for clinical trials that focus on treating Osteosarcoma, gives financial assistance to families fighting pediatric cancer, and helps fund the Make-A-Wish efforts in Central and Western North Carolina. You can learn more about the foundation at TheAmazingGraceFoundation.org.
One of the ways in which the foundation raises funds is through the annual Amazing Grace 5k race. This year, the race will be held at Grand Oak Elementary School in Huntersville, NC on October 20. We are pleased to announce that South State is a sponsor of this race, and employees are welcome to participate or contribute as they’d like. Click here to learn more about the Amazing Grace 5k race.
On Grandparents Day, September 9, we honor all of our team members who are grandparents; you play an important role in our company and in shaping the minds, hearts and lives of your grandchildren.
