Pack Up These Picnic Recipes

Picnic recipesAs if our beautiful southern summer wasn’t inspiration enough to pack up a basket of your favorite goodies and head out for lunch, July is also National Picnic Month. From fresh salads to easy desserts, here are some ideas to make a great picnic.

Broccoli Pesto Pasta

This pasta can be eaten warm or cold and doesn’t have any dairy, making it perfect for a picnic. This is a great option for the whole family.

Herbed Egg Salad

Give your traditional egg salad a twist by adding your favorite herbs. This recipe uses chives and dill, but tarragon, basil and oregano are all good options. Serve on your favorite bread or use as a dip for cucumber slices.

The BA Muffuletta

This monster sandwich is great for a crowd and the flavors get better the longer it sits. Make the sandwich in the morning to give the ingredients plenty of time to mix and soak into the bread.

Blueberry Hand Pies

A slice of pie is a great ending to a picnic, but the logistics can be difficult. These hand pies are the perfect solution.


There’s nothing better than a southern tomato in the summer. Panzanella is a salad that mixes tomatoes and vegetables with crunchy French bread croutons topped with a vinaigrette dressing. Mix the salad together, including the dressing, about 30 minutes before eating to allow the flavors to blend. Or combine all the salad ingredients and add the dressing when you get to the picnic to keep the bread from getting too soggy.

Tuscan Pasta Salad with Grilled Vegetables

If you’re looking for a main dish that doesn’t require a lot of sides to make a complete meal, then this is a salad for you. Mix in shredded chicken or sliced steak for added protein and you’re all set!
