SouthState Atlanta Team Welcomes New State President

ATLANTA – February 6, 2024 – SouthState Bank continues its push to serve the fast-paced Atlanta market with the addition of a new hire.
Veteran banker BJ Green has joined the bank as state president for the Atlanta Banking Group, reporting to Doug Williams. Williams will continue as president of the Atlanta Banking Group and head of corporate banking.
“We see great potential in the Atlanta market and believe BJ is the right leader to build our presence and effectiveness there. His experience, expertise, and relationships will add significant value to SouthState,” Williams says. “Our work in Atlanta has only begun.”
A longtime Atlanta banking leader, Green brings a wealth of commercial and corporate banking experience to SouthState. He most recently worked with Cadence Bank as a commercial banking executive. Prior to Cadence, Green led the strategic development of commercial banking in Atlanta for SunTrust Bank. He specialized in loan syndications, investment banking, corporate finance and capital markets during his 30-year career.
Green will oversee the strategic development, growth and profitability of banking activities in Atlanta for SouthState. Teams under his leadership include commercial banking, commercial real estate, and premier private banking, all of which focus on meeting the banking and financing needs of clients and prospects.
An alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Emory University and Leadership Georgia, Green is a fixture in the local community. He sits on multiple nonprofit boards including Trees Atlanta, Woodruff Arts Center, Rotary Club of Atlanta, Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, Buckhead Coalition, and the Kenan-Flagler Business School Alumni Council. He also serves as secretary for the Habersham Park Association and is on the advisory board for Allied Financial Corporation.
Ashley Carson, president of the Atlanta commercial division, and Terry DeWitt, president of the Atlanta community division, will report to Green as they continue developing SouthState’s presence in the region.
