We take many steps to ensure your information is secure, protecting you from fraud and identity theft. We use the latest technology to ensure that your accounts are kept confidential. Listed below is a summary of how we protect your information Online.
Online Banking Login
Our Online Banking has multiple layers of security and verifies your identity in several ways. Each time you log in, the system will verify you through your Access ID and Password. It also lets you identify us by using an Extended Validation (EV) certificate. With this certificate, you will see some or all of the following features to verify if you are entering our secure site:
- All or part of your website address bar will be green.
- Our Online Banking partner’s name, “Fiserv, Inc.” or “Trusted” will appear in the address bar.
- A padlock icon will appear in the address bar.
The EV certificate may display differently depending on the type of web browser you use. For more information about EV certificates, please click here.
Our website and Online Banking both utilize Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocols. SSL provides a secure channel for data transmission by encrypting the data and ensures that the data cannot be altered during transmission. To use Online Banking, South State requires an internet browser that supports 128-bit encryption. Please note: Anytime you see a website that begins with “https” instead of “http”, you know you are using a secure connection through SSL.
In addition to SSL encryption, South State was issued a certificate for the bank’s server. This means our Online Banking is a safe and secure site that has been verified and passed a malware scan.
To stop unauthorized users from reaching our bank’s servers, we utilize hardware and software firewalls. These firewalls act as a communications filter which can stop malicious communications. For added security, your data passes through a series of firewalls that scramble your information to ensure that only authorized South State representatives can read it.
Using the Log off button on any site is the best way to safely end the secure connection between your computer and a server. Our Online Banking has an automatic log off feature that will automatically end your session if there is no activity on your PC for 15 minutes.
Regardless of changes in technology and information, South State has always been and will continue to be committed to the principles of customer privacy. We honor the trust you place in us by maintaining the confidentiality and accuracy of that information, and we use it in manners consistent with the confidence you have placed in us.
