How do I open a not-for-profit bank account with SouthState?
Opening a not-for-profit bank account with SouthState is a straightforward process designed to ensure we understand your organization's unique needs and can provide the most appropriate financial solutions. Here's our simple step-by-step process:
Step 1: Initial Consultation
Begin by scheduling a meeting with one of our Non-profit Banking specialists. This can be done by calling one of our dedicated non-profit team members, visiting your local SouthState branch, or completing our online request form. During this consultation, we'll discuss your organization's specific needs, financial goals, and the various account options available to you.
Step 2: Documentation Preparation
To open your account, you'll need to provide the following documentation:
- 501(c)(3) determination letter from the IRS or other proof of tax-exempt status
- Articles of Incorporation or Organization
- Bylaws or Operating Agreement
- Employer Identification Number (EIN)
- List of authorized signers with their identification information
- Board resolution authorizing the opening of the account
- Minutes from the board meeting showing approval of the signatories
Step 3: Account Opening
Based on your organization's specific needs, our Non-profit Banking specialist will help you select the most relevant account type(s) and services. We offer a range of options specifically designed for non-profits, including:
- Non-profit Checking Accounts with reduced or waived fees
- Interest-bearing non-profit savings accounts for reserve funds
- Specialized accounts for endowments or donor-restricted funds
- Treasury management solutions for donation processing
Once you've selected your account(s) and gathered the necessary documentation, you can complete the account opening process either at your local SouthState branch or, in many cases, digitally through our secure online platform. Our team will guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have.
Step 4: Ongoing Support
After your account is opened, we'll help you set up online banking access, payment processing solutions, and any other services you've selected. Your dedicated Non-profit Banking specialist will continue to provide ongoing support, regular account reviews, and strategic financial guidance to help your organization thrive.
At SouthState, we're committed to making the account opening process as smooth and efficient as possible for non-profit organizations. Our goal is to get your financial infrastructure established quickly so you can focus on what matters most – advancing your mission and serving your community.
