Online Account Opening Frequently Asked Questions

What are micro deposits?

Micro deposits are small deposits that will be deposited to the account you specified in the online application. You will need to verify these deposits to confirm your account.
 

What information do I need to apply for an account online?

You will need your Social Security Number, valid ID (Driver’s License, U.S. Passport, Military ID or State ID), valid address and a valid email address registered to your name. If your application will include a co-applicant, your co-applicant will also need to supply this information.
 

How can I fund my account?

You can transfer funds from an account at SouthState or another financial institution, or you can fund your account through your debit or credit card. You can also choose to fund your account at a later time and make a deposit through Mobile Deposits or in a branch after opening an account.

Please note, funding may take up to three business days.
 

What types of SouthState accounts can I open online?

You can open personal Checking, Savings or Money Market accounts online. At this time, you will not be able to open a Holiday Savings or Health Savings Account online.
 

Can I save an application and finish it later?

Yes. You can save your application and finish it at a later time. To save an application, click “Save and Continue Later,” then log out.
 

How much will I need to deposit into my new account?

If you plan to fund your account at the time of account opening, the minimum amount you will need to deposit is $25.
 

How do I save an application?

To save an application, click “Save and Continue Later,” then log out. You can access your account later by following the instructions you received through email.
 

Can I apply for a Business Checking or Savings account online?

No. We currently do not offer online applications for Business Checking, Savings or Money Market accounts.

If you are interested in a Business Checking, Savings or Money Market account, please visit a SouthState branch.
 

How long will my application be saved if I haven’t completed it?

Your online application will be saved for 30 days. After 30 days, your application will no longer be saved, and you will need to start a new application.
 

I do not currently live within the geographic footprint. Can I open an account?

At this time, you must have a physical address in one of SouthState’s markets to open an account online.

After my application has been approved, how long will it be saved?

Once your application has been approved, you can log in at any time to retrieve your information and disclosures. There is no expiration date for when the information will be displayed.

I recently opened a SouthState account online, but I do not see the account in my Online/Mobile Banking.

The account should be visible within Online/Mobile Banking within one business day. If it is not, please call us at (800) 277-2175, and we will be happy to assist you.


How long will it take me to open an account online?

Generally, it should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete an application online.


I just opened my account online and would like to add a beneficiary. How do I do this?

To add a beneficiary to your account, you will need to visit your local SouthState branch.


I think I entered incorrect information in my application (name, address, SSN, etc.). What should I do?

If you have submitted an application and you believe you provided incorrect information, please call us at (800) 277-2175 for assistance.


Can I open a joint account with another person?

Yes. You may add a co-applicant to your application. If your application includes a co-applicant, your co-applicant will also need to supply a Social Security Number, valid ID (Driver’s License, U.S. Passport, Military ID or State ID), valid address and a valid email address registered to his or her name.


What are the age requirements for applying for a SouthState account online?

You must be at least 18 years of age to open an account online. To open an account for a child under the age of 18, please visit a SouthState branch.
