Views of the Gulf from a top-rated seafood hideaway, hearing cheers for “Champa Bay” sports teams, and the steady stream of golf carts rolling past tree-lined fairways; everyday life in Tampa, Florida, is shaped by sunshine, culture, and a deep sense of community.
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to live in this vibrant city, our SouthState team is happy to share what makes Tampa so special. From sunny weather and world-famous attractions to a thriving business environment, there’s something here for everyone.
If you’re moving to Tampa, we have multiple locations to serve you, including our branch in Midtown in heart of the city.
With steady population growth and a reputation as one of Florida’s most dynamic metro areas, Tampa continues to attract people looking for opportunity, connection, and a place that feels like home.
“I believe Tampa’s culture itself is the moving force attracting more residents to our area,” says Midtown Branch Manager Angel Acosta. “This area is truly living through a modern-day renaissance. We have beautiful sunshine all year round, wonderful sports teams, and a plethora of different restaurants that make this a paradise for food enthusiasts!” “It’s a lively city with lots to do, see and eat,” agrees Premier Private Banking Relationship Manager Hanisha Patel.
Scrumptious Italian food may not be your first thought when you’re thinking about sunny Tampa, but Patel believes Forbici Modern Italian will change your mind. Located in the popular Hyde Park Village, Forbici brings people together over authentic Italian dishes in the style of a warm family dinner.
If you’re inspired to cook your own Italian meal after visiting Forbici, Patel recommends stopping by Joe and Son’s Olive Oils to check out an array of specialty blends and gourmet foods. In operation since 1938, Joe and Sons is still run by the Favata family, community leaders known for giving back to their city.
Fans of Tampa Bay sports teams might bump into North Riverview Branch Manager Michael Tyrone at The Patio, where Bucs, Rays and Lightning fans watch all the big games. “Their food and atmosphere are a fantastic staple of the community,” he says.
Acosta believes you can’t become a local until you’re a regular at the historic Ybor City, touring cigar factories and sampling the community’s famous Cuban sandwich. “Ybor City is a melting pot of cultures that created what Tampa is today. In Ybor you can take a stroll down the 7th Avenue strip and feel the majestic atmosphere of the area,” he says.
Those who want to enjoy a day outdoors without spending money will enjoy taking in the sights along the Tampa Riverwalk. Enhanced by a new pedestrian path in the downtown sector, Tampa is more connected than ever before. “This pathway has revitalized the heart of our city emphasizing one of our most valuable resources, our waterfront,” Acosta adds.
The city isn’t just fun and food, however. As Tyrone puts it, business is growing in the Tampa area. “It’s truly a professionally driven city with a wide array of industries,” Patel agrees.
Those doing business in Tampa and the surrounding region will find SouthState’s bankers well-poised to serve their needs. “We take time to listen and understand their goals in order to make the appropriate financial recommendations. We strive to build long-term relationships so we can be there throughout their financial lifetime,” Tyrone says. In addition to being experts in their field, our bankers are also rooted in the community. Many are building connections by serving on local commissions and boards.
Acosta encourages people to stop by the “one of a kind” Midtown branch in person. “We are not your typical brick and mortar office. The Midtown Tampa Development is like a little city within a city, where there is a big emphasis on a ‘live, work, play culture,’” he says.
For those new to Tampa, Patel’s conversations often turn to why they decided to move to the area. “We’ve found that the urban growth is creating boundless opportunities, casting a wide net for success in a variety of career paths,” she says.
